Although the moderator let him get away with it, Republican
Presidential nominee lied again about his support for the Iraq war.
It surely made people wonder if he could be believed if
elected since he cannot even tell the truth now.
Once again, as in recent days it appeared that the focus on
health might be better aimed at Trump. He looked worn out.
As usual, because he changes positions so often as time goes
on, he was able to cite times when he had opposed on the Iraq War on an
unprecedented national town hall on defense. He continued his attacks on the
nation’s military leadership.
Moderator Matt Lauer was widely criticized throughout the
media for allowing Trump, who claims to have “the world’s great memory’ to
lie.” Trump cannot remember that either, though many saw him it when he had
control of the nation’s cable TV.
His lies seem to be working to some extent as he is creeping
close to Hillary Clinton, though nowhere near 50 per cent. And the polls show
it is not out of the question, in a four-candidate race, that Trump could win
the popular vote and be crushed in the Electoral College. And there is no
Supreme Court to save his bacon because
it would be split four-to-four because of a vacancy.
The Huffington Post reported: “Of all the lies Donald Trump
likes to tell while running for president, the one about being an early
opponent of the 2003 Iraq War may be his favorite. Despite well-documented evidence
that the casino mogul spoke in support of the ill-fated war in the lead-up to
the invasion, reporters have repeatedly let the Republican presidential
candidate tell a revisionist version of his past stance without pushing back on
the claim.”
He did it on the Howard Stern radio show, a record of which
is available.
Buzzfeed’s Andrew
Kaczynski was the first to uncover Trump’s earlier remarks
about the war in Iraq. In 2000, Trump called for a “principled and tough”
policy toward “outlaw” states like Iraq, Buzzfeed found. In 2002, Howard
Stern asked Trump outright if he favored invading Iraq. “Yeah, I guess
so,” Trump said at the time. “I wish the first time it was done correctly.”
While the military audience lived up to what has been a
pro-Republican trend since Eisenhower was president, Trump appeared still
unaware that being a fan of Russian President Putin was not an asset.
“He was especially insistent in defending his praise of the
Russian president, Vladimir V. Putin, arguing that Mr. Putin had “an 82 percent
approval rating” in his country.
“I think when he calls me brilliant, I’ll take the compliment,
O.K.?” Mr. Trump said, according to the New York Times.
He also said the sexual assault problem in the military was
a natural resource of admitting women.
